​ Where to begin? I guess it would be 2020, looking for peace amongst the chaos of a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic. I was watching D-Nice do a livestream when he directed everyone to see Questlove do his first live stream. He kept doing the streams every night, and I kept falling in love, not with how he was mixing but with his passion and knowledge of music. Although I AM 50 years old, I decided to try mixing. I've loved DJing since I was a teen in Chicago, home of house music. Every Friday and Saturday night, I would listen to the Hot Mix 5 make magic with every record they had in their arsenal. Over time, I would record or later download mixes to listen to how they were able to blend, transition, or mash up songs. I loved how they could weave musical narratives, which was more or less a lesson on how to be an excellent DJ. I decided, in 2020, to teach myself how to DJ, and I started making mixes more or less for myself. One of my mixes, The Conquering Lion, is featured as a three-part mix on Nova Radio, the first part airing this past July. In addition to making mixes, I am a writer and finishing my bachelor's degree in psychology, so my life is diverse. It is good to be featured on this platform, and I promise each mix will be uniquely different from the last. Why did I name my show the Mars room? It's in honor of my little cousin AJ, who went by the rapper name JAYJAYONMars. He was, sadly, murdered in May of 2024. He loved music just as much as I did, so I wanted to show how much I miss him and love him by doing this show. Although I know this is primarily a place for house/techno/trance, I want to bring more of what I vibe with, in addition to my first love, house. Sit back, relax, and go on a trip with me through my musical mind. You won't be disappointed.

MELLOW PROG VIBES
​An offshoot series, called Mellow Prog Vibes, is released every two weeks and focuses on more chill vibes, slightly more downtempo, to create a more relaxed vibe. It is curated by OPV resident DJ Boraa, who plays every other episode, with guest DJs playing the alternate. Steve Finney was the curator of Mellow Prog Vibes for two years between 2021- 23; he has been a weekly resident DJ on Blast the Radio (Ottawa) and has played at most of OPV’s live events. Ottawa Prog Vibes and Mellow Prog Vibes are broadcast on Chill Lover Radio (New York, USA), on Ottawa’s Blast the Radio and on Toronto’s ECHO Radio

ABOUT OTTAWA PROG VIBES
​OPV started as a weekly podcast/radio show in May 2019 and has grown into a platform that has three goals: 1. to organise live events in Ottawa to support and promote a top-quality progressive house/electronic sound; 2. to support and promote Ottawa-based DJ’s/producers first, and Canadian progressive DJ’s also, and showcase them to a global audience; 3. to bring international progressive talent to Ottawa ears as a way to expand our city’s musical taste buds. OPV has three resident DJ’s: founder Alain M., Steve Finney, and Boraa. Alain M.'s weekly podcast and radio show, Ottawa Prog Vibes, is now in its sixth year and is a recognized presence among Canadian Electronica shows. Alain plays three out of every 10 shows. His mixing has been noted as particularly creative and smooth, a skill that allow his sets to be experienced as seamless stories
